Vertically battened sails

In the July issue of Yachting Monthly, on sale 14 June, Tom Cunliffe describes his experience of sailing aboard a reader's yacht fitted with vertically battened mainsail and genoa.

These vertical battens allow the sails to be furled around their leech without the usual loss of sail shape when reefed - well that's the theory. Read Tom's article to discover his first impressions of this relatively new technology.
